Josh McDermitt | Keppler Speakers

Good humored, multi-faceted, and tenacious are all words that describe Josh McDermitt. A well-known name in comedy, McDermitt is recognized for his dramatic roles as well, including in his current role as ‘Dr. Eugene Porter’ on AMC’s record-breaking hit, "The Walking Dead". He also recurred on the final season of Mad Men on which he had a dramatically different role.

McDermitt began his career in entertainment at 14, when he began working at the local radio station and discovered his love for using his voice to create characters. He continued to work in radio while he attended Grand Canyon University. After college, McDermitt tried his hand at standup comedy and began performing at The Tempe Improv. Within two years of doing shows around town, he auditioned for NBC's "Last Comic Standing" and made it to the semi-finals, which put him on the map and led to him touring full time and opening for such celebrated comics as Joe Rogan, Louis CK and Dave Attell. Focused on pursuing a career in film and television, McDermitt moved to Los Angeles but continued doing standup to pay the bills.

In 2011, he landed a series regular role on TV Land’s "Retired at 35", and for two seasons he starred as ‘Brandon,’ pool man and best friend to ‘Dave,’ who quits the corporate rat race in New York City and retires to Florida at 35. During his time on the show, McDermitt worked with renowned actors, including George Segal and Jessica Walter.

When not working, McDermitt is a writer, pitching and developing several projects. Committed to giving back, he actively supports organizations including the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Homeboy Industries, and various foundations that support Pancreatic Cancer research.
